2024: FRSC records 6.6% reduction in road crashes in Gombe
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gombe State Command, said it recorded a 6.6 per cent reduction in Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in 2024, when compared to 2023.
The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Samson Kaura, stated this during a press conference at the command headquarters in Lafiyawo community in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Kaura stated that in 2024, 328 crashes were recorded in the state compared to 351 crashes recorded in 2023.
He stated that there was also a decrease in the number of deaths recorded within the periods under review, adding that there was a 9.2 per cent reduction in the number of persons killed.
He attributed the possible cases of crashes in 2024 to speed, overloading, loss of control, and wrongful overtaking.
According to him, the Corps has stepped up efforts towards sensitisation and prompt response to emergencies in cases of crash.
He said the command was able to reduce deaths from auto crashes in the year under review through collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies in Gombe State.
He said that the measures taken in 2024 had yielded positive results in terms of the reduction in the number of crashes and people killed as a result of the crash.
He said that the corps would strengthen its collaborations with critical stakeholders towards sensitising more road users in the state as well as improving on enforcement of traffic rules.
Giving further statistics, Kaura said in 2024, 108 persons were killed in the 328 crashes recorded as against the 119 deaths in 2023.
He said in 2024, 2196 people were involved in the crash, 1078 persons were injured, while 1010 went home unhurt.
When compared to that of 2023, he said 2588 persons were involved with 1308 sustaining varying degrees of injuries while 1161 went home unhurt.
He stated that 515 vehicles were involved in 2023 while 471 was recorded in 2024.
The sector commander advised road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel in 2025 towards ensuring the safety of the lives and property of road users in the state.
