2024 Integrity Index: Gombe Leads Northeast, Ranks 5th Nationwide
Gombe State has once again affirmed its position as a beacon of transparency and good governance under the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
The state has secured 5th place in the 2024 Transparency and Public Integrity Index, ranking ahead of 31 other states and the Federal Capital Territory. Gombe also emerged as the top-performing state in the Northeast region.
The 2024 report, released by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity Watch (CeFTPIW), highlights Gombe’s strides in accountability and effective governance. CeFTPIW, established in 2016, advocates for robust transparency and accountability mechanisms in public institutions.
According to the findings, Gombe State scored a commendable 32.50 points overall, trailing only Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, and Kwara.
The report particularly celebrated Gombe’s 2nd position in citizen engagement with 62.50 points, 7th in financial management with 87.49 points, and 6th in procurement integrity with 12.51 points.
Additionally, the state ranked 3rd in human resources and control of corruption, reinforcing its commitment to ethical governance.
In the Northeast, Gombe outperformed Borno (9th position, 28.94 points) and Bauchi (11th position, 26.89 points), solidifying its lead in regional accountability.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration has demonstrated a consistent trajectory of improvement. Gombe climbed from 11th in 2021 to 7th in 2022 and maintained 5th place in both 2023 and 2024.
This achievement follows other significant recognitions, including 6th place in the 2023 BudgIT State-of-the-States Report and 5th place in the World Bank’s 2022 States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability, and Sustainability (SFTAS) ranking.
The rankings underscore the state’s robust governance framework, emphasizing due process, fiscal responsibility, and adherence to the rule of law under Governor Yahaya’s leadership.
As Gombe continues to raise the bar in governance, the state serves as an inspiration for other regions striving to enhance transparency and public integrity.
