6th National Youth Games: 150 contingent to represent Taraba in Ilorin – Shitta
The Taraba State Sports Council says reparation to participate in the upcoming coming 6th National Youth Games scheduled to take place in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital is on the top gear.
Director of Sports Council, George Shitta disclosed this in a chat with Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN in his office in Jalingo, the capital city.
He said one hundred and fifty contingents are to represent Taraba state at the National Youth Games in Ilorin, while fifty officials will accompany the contingent to the sixth Edition to Ilorin.
Shitta, revealed that the contingents will be participating in Football, volleyball, badminton, weight lifting, Beach, Golf, Judo, wrestling and Table Tennis.
The Director was optimistic that the contingents will win medals for the state, adding that already, the contingent are well prepared for the Games and promised to give them all necessary backup by making them comfortable to face their counterparts.
He described sports as a source of livelihood, calling on corporate organizations and individuals to support sports development as government can not do it alone.
“I’m a sportsman, I earn my living from the sports and today I’m a Director of sports in the civil service, so sports it’s a business, therefore, people should invest in sports because it will help in taking the youths off street which will result to reducing crimes in the society.
On the preparedness of the contingent to take off on Monday next week, the Director said concerted effort is ongoing for its success.
Shitta who described Governor Darius (a Golfer) as a sports lover, applauded Ishaku for his support to sports development in the state.
George Shtitta, however, hinted that he has recently been elected as Technical Referee in the board of Federation of Badminton of Nigeria and called on Tarabans to key into sports politics because there are lots of privileges that they can bring development too the state.
Speaking in an interview with our Correspondent, some youths who did not mention their names described the Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Hon. Abubakar Imam as incompetent and called for his removal.

“We are not happy the sports activities are going on in this state, let us tell, we have a standard Stadium that no any state has in Nigeria but if you will go to other states and see how they are helping our friends and also if you see the best players they have are from Taraba state.” They lamented.
When contacted through a telephone for comment, the Commissioner was not picking calls neither respond to SMS sent to him.
