Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe Raises Alarm Over On-Set Safety After Near-Fatal Injury
Nigerian film star Godwin Nnadiekwe has issued a passionate call for greater safety and discipline on movie sets following a harrowing incident in which he sustained a serious chest injury during a film shoot.
Taking to his official Instagram page (@godwin_nnadiekwe), the actor revealed that he was unexpectedly kicked in the chest by a fellow actor during a scene — a move that was neither scripted nor sanctioned by the film’s director.
Nnadiekwe described the ordeal as extremely painful, requiring immediate medical attention and medication to manage the severity of his condition. Unfortunately, with no insurance coverage in place, he had to cover all his medical expenses out of pocket.
“This isn’t about pointing fingers,” he wrote, “but a critical wake-up call. We must start putting safety first on set.”
The actor emphasised that many film productions operate without proper health insurance or even basic first aid facilities, which makes any unexpected physical action a potential risk to lives.
“What if this had been worse? What if it ended differently?” he asked. “Every stunt, every physical move, must be deliberate, rehearsed, and cleared by the director.”
He urged his colleagues—actors, directors, and producers alike—to maintain strict adherence to scripts, respect directorial instructions, and prioritise each other’s safety on set.
“Our lives matter more than any scene. We need to protect ourselves and each other,” he stressed.
Nnadiekwe was later rushed to the hospital, where he is currently being treated for internal bleeding. The incident has once again sparked conversation about the urgent need for industry-wide safety standards and insurance policies for actors and crew members alike.
