Ambush: How Boko Haram killed 15 Soldiers, abduct 1 in Borno

Fresh statistics from security source has explained how a military convoy was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram militia killing about 15 soldiers and four civilian JTF the group also abducted 1 soldier.

According to the source who told AFP, the attack which occurred last Thursday left three fighters from the government’s side injured and that happened around Gudumbali in the Lake Chad region in the northeastern Borno state.

According to the SITE jihadist monitoring agency, the Islamic State-aligned jihadists (ISWAP) later on Saturday claimed responsibility for the attack.

A military officer, who pleaded anonymity confirmed the attack to AFP saying: “We lost 15 soldiers and four civilian JTF (militia) in the terrorists’ ambush in the forest near Gudumbali”.

According to another security source, who gave a similar death toll, the convoy of 10 vehicles was traveling from Kukawa to Gudumbali for an operation against the militants.

Nigeria has been battling an insurgency by Boko Haram in the restive north and northeast regions for over a decade.

In 2016, the group split into two groups, the main faction and the Islamic State-affiliated Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Both groups have been blamed for increasing attacks on civilians they accuse of spying for the army and pro-government militia.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brig. General Yerima… was contacted for comments on this matter but he didn’t respond to the email up to the time of this report.
