APC: Taraba Congress Contestant’s Forum Urges Gov. Buni to dissolve state caretaker committee
The wrangling in the Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has again taken a different dimension as the leadership of the contestant’s forum called for the immediate dissolution of the state caretaker committee.
The forum has asked the national body to send in a credible person that will conduct the state congress, which could not be held on Saturday 16th, October 2021 as scheduled due to insecurity.
During a press briefing on Saturday in Jalingo through their Chairman, Alhaji Buba Madugu, and the Secretary, Sani Abdullahi Tullu, the forum lamented that the committee charged with the responsibility of screening contestants did not deem it fit to discharge their responsibilities as they have not even surfaced in the state.
The group, which also faulted the party’s leadership for not communicating with the members of the congress that ought to take place today, said “as at this moment that we are speaking, we have not received any official communication from our national secretariat as regards today’s congress.”
The forum, it would be recalled, had earlier frowned at the way and manner the last two congresses (ward and local government) were conducted in Taraba state.
Kicking against what they described as micro congress or consensus, they called on the leadership of the party to provide a level playground for all the contestants, hence the need to cease adopting consensus methods.
Wondering why the state caretaker committee has not deemed it fit to relinquish their positions to create room for free, fair, credible, and transparent state congress, the forum said the party at the centre has to take over the affairs of the state chapter to ensure a successful congress.
The state caretaker committee chairman, Barrister Ibrahim El-Sudi, told our Correspondent through a telephone that the congress was postponed on security grounds.
“I’m not in Jalingo, I’m in Wukari for condolence. You can quote me. “the congress has been postponed indefinitely because of insecurity. So the national body will invite us to Abuja for a meeting to iron out some issues.
El-Sudi, who claimed that some chieftains of the party have arrived the state with thugs to foment trouble, attached their action to the postponement of the exercise.
“Thugs brandishing various weapons were recently sighted in the convoys of two of the prominent members of the party jostling to bear the governorship flag of the party in 2023. He alleged.
