Armed Forces Remembrance, an opportunity to address dependants’ predicaments, says Gov. Yahaya
Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Thursday, said the Armed Forces Remembrance Day was an opportunity not just to remember fallen heroes but also to address the predicament of their dependants and loved ones they left behind while defending the nation.
Gov. Yahaya stated this at the official launch of the 2020/2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund held at the new banquet hall of the Government House.
He said the event also afforded the Government and people of the State the opportunity to reflect on the contribution made by members of the armed forces in and out of service and to provide succour to members of their families.
“This appeal fund is therefore meant to generate resources to support families and loved ones of our fallen heroes and retired servicemen. Let me use this forum to appeal to good-spirited individuals as well as public and private organizations to donate generously to the Emblem Appeal Fund”.
Having made the appeal to Nigerians to support the fallen heroes’ dependants, Yahaya, therefore, launched the 2020/2021 Appeal Fund with the sum of N5 million as Government’s donation while a personal donation of one million naira was also announced by the governor.
The governor also seized the opportunity to salute the courage of serving officers and men in defending our territorial integrity despite the numerous security challenges bedevilling the nation.
He further used the occasion to call on the good people of Gombe State to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another irrespective of their differences while assuring government’s continuous support to security agencies in order to maintain law and order in the State.
Our correspondent reports that aside the Governor’s cumulative donation of 6 million naira, heads of other government arms, agencies, security services and other public- spirited individuals also gave their widows mite.
