Army Chief Bolsters Troop Presence in Yobe Amid Renewed Insurgent Threat
In response to renewed threats posed by Boko Haram in Yobe State, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has announced the deployment of additional military personnel and equipment to strengthen security efforts in the region.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, disclosed during his visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu on Wednesday. The visit follows recent attacks on military installations in Goniri and Buni Gari, located in the Gujba Local Government Area.
Gen. Oluyede emphasised that the Nigerian Army would utilise every available means to prevent the state from relapsing into the instability experienced a decade ago. He urged the local population to actively support military operations by cooperating with security personnel.
He warned of the growing instability across the Sahel region, noting that without collective effort to contain insecurity, the entire nation could face serious consequences. “If we fail to act together, we risk losing our nation to unrest,” he cautioned.
He further assured that President Bola Tinubu remains firmly committed to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace, expressing confidence that the military would prevail.
Governor Buni, in his response, praised Gen. Oluyede for personally assessing the affected locations and acknowledged the courage of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He stressed that their bravery would not be forgotten.
The governor also urged greater collaboration among security agencies and encouraged residents to assist by sharing timely and reliable information, assuring them that their identities would be safeguarded.
