Army kills 48 terrorists, rescues 8 captives in Borno

Troops of 28 Task Force Brigade, Operation Lafiya Dole have killed 48 Boko Haram in the Chibok/Damboa axis of Borno state.

The soldiers also rescued eight abductees, while conducting military operations in the Askira-Chibok main supply routes of Boko Haram terrorists.

In a statement Sunday in Maiduguri, Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, disclosed that; “The gallant troops laid an ambush, engaged and overwhelmed the criminals with aggressive firepower.”

He said the troops neutralized nine insurgents in the process, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds into Sambisa Forest.

According to him, the troops recovered seven AK-47 rifles with the rescue of three abductees of Boko Haram terror group.

Similarly, the troops of 28 Task Force Brigade in Askira of Borno state; also laid another ambush along the Askira/Chibok supply routes and killed 39 terrorists.

“In the course of the encounter, our troops successfully rescued eight kidnapped victims of terrorists.

“Unfortunately, one of the rescued victims, sustained injuries in the leg, while in captivity of insurgents, and injured person has been evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

He said during the rescue operations, troops also recovered another eight AK-47 rifles with four magazines among other items captured from the fleeing terrorists.

According to him, the troops are trailing the terrorists, so as to locate their enclaves for neutralization.

While applauding troops’ efforts, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, said: “You’re to remain dogged and maintain the offensive posture in your operations until the area is rid of all remnants of terrorists,” adding that the people should continue to support the Army.

“You’re are also to continue to provide us with credible information on the modus operandi of Boko Haram in the Northeast,” he said.
