Army Orders Troops to Eradicate Lakurawa Sect or Expel Them
The Nigerian Army has directed troops under Operation Fansan Yamma to eliminate the Lakurawa sect or ensure their complete expulsion from Nigerian territory.
Maj.-Gen. Oluyinka Soleye, the Theater Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest, issued the directive on Friday, January 10, 2025, during a visit to troops stationed in Balle, Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Addressing the troops, Soleye urged them to remain resolute in their mission, reassuring them of the Army’s full backing.
“I am here to assess your situation and motivate you. Be assured that the Army headquarters is fully behind you. Take every necessary measure to eliminate the Lakurawa sect or force them out of our territory,” he stated.
He commended the troops for their dedication and bravery, pledging continued support to ensure the success of their operations.
Alhaji Buhari Kurdula, Chairman of Gudu Local Government Area, lauded the efforts of the troops in securing the region, particularly against bandits and the Lakurawa sect.
Kurdula noted that while the sect had been present in the area for about eight years, they had established a more permanent base in the past year.
“With the Army’s firm stance, we are optimistic that the Lakurawa sect and other security threats will soon be eradicated,” he added.
The renewed directive underscores the Army’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in affected communities within Sokoto State and the wider Northwest region.
