In a decisive move to reinforce the Nigerian Army’s artillery strength, the Commander Corps of Artillery (CCA), Major General Zakari Abubakar, embarked on an operational tour to the 301 Artillery Regiment (General Support), located at the New Barracks in Gombe.
The visit is part of a wider assessment mission across artillery units aimed at strengthening ongoing operations against terrorists and criminal elements.
Addressing troops and officers during the tour, Major General Abubakar emphasized the significance of the visit in identifying areas needing support and ensuring sustained pressure on enemies of the state.
He lauded the efforts of the Commander 301 Artillery Regiment, Colonel AM Mohammed, for his relentless drive in maintaining security and professionalism within his command.
“The Army Headquarters is aware of the challenges you face, particularly with accommodation.
“I can assure you that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, is fully committed to improving troop welfare and addressing these concerns as a matter of urgency,” he said.
The CCA also encouraged officers to maintain their momentum in the fight against insecurity, describing their role as pivotal in achieving national peace and stability.
In his briefing, Colonel Mohammed expressed appreciation for the visit and outlined notable achievements under his leadership.
He attributed the unit’s operational success to adherence to effective command principles and teamwork, despite some logistic and infrastructural setbacks.
The CCA’s entourage included the Commander 33 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General UG Simon, alongside other senior officers.
The visit featured key symbolic activities including the signing of the visitors’ book, a tour of both new and old barracks, tree planting, presentation of plaques, and a group photograph with troops.
