The Bauchi state house assembly has passed the Bauchi state tree planting and conservation 2020 bill into law.
The ccting Chairman House Committee on Forestry and Environment Mukhtar Suleiman (Katagum Constituency) laid the report of the Committee on a Bill for a Law on Tree Planting in Bauchi State 2020 before the house on Wednesday.
It could be recalled the Bauchi State Tree Planting Bill 2020 was sponsored by Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada (Bogoro Constituency) seeking to ensure that forests and trees are conserved as well as manage in a manner that meet the need of the present generation.
“The Committee suggested that the title of the Bill should be changed to read ‘Bauchi State Tree Planting and Conservation Bill 2020’.
“This is because all forests reserves in the State are almost destroyed therefore adding Conservation after Tree Planting in the law will help in restoring forest reserves in the State.
The Commmitee recommended that Government should embark on massive tree planting of tree to serve as shelter belt within the 20 local governments of the State and consider how to restore our forest reserves with proactive measures.
The committee also recommended that government should liaise with nongovernmental organizations, civil society organizations, donor agencies, NYSC, road transport unions, religious and community leaders for providing tree seedlings to all the nooks and crannies of the State.
The commmitee government to make it mandatory for all construction firms as a matter of policy to include tree planting along newly constructed roads, houses and schools within the State.
“As well as put a stop to cutting down of trees for charcoal and timber within forests in the State.
The speaker Abubakar Suleiman put the recommendations to voice vote, Members unanimously adopted the recommendations of the Committee.
The Member Nakwada (Bogoro Constituency) requested the Honourable House to allow the Bauchi State Tree Planting Bill 2020 to undergo third reading.
Seconded by Jamilu Umaru Dahiru (Bauchi Central Constituency).
The House unanimously approved and the Speaker Suleiman directed the Clerk of the House Umar Yusuf Gital-Esq to carry out the third reading.
The House, however, passed the Bauchi State Tree Planting and Conservation Bill 2020 into law.
