Borno declares public holiday to mark Islamic New Year

The Borno State Government, has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025 as public holiday to mark the commencement of the Islamic year 1447, after Hijrah.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bukar Tijjani, in a statement released yesterday, in Maiduguri revealed, “The thework-free day also applies to all institutions, including offices, schools, and the financial institutions that are operating in the state.”
The SSG, therefore, urged residents to use the new Islamic Calendar, as a time of reflection with spiritual renewal for the betterment of the state and the entire country. Beyond declaring a public holiday, Tijjani added, “Let me use this opportunity to congratulate the Muslim community and the entire people of the state for witnessing their Islamic New Year.” He called on residents to use the period for spiritual reflections and commitment to a more prosperous and peaceful state in the country. Additionally, he further stated, “Governor Babagana Zulum has also urged the residents not to relent in their prayers,” hoping that the new year ushers in peace, development, and the socio-economic advancement that aligned with his administration’s post-insurgency recovery projects. The SSG further pledged the state government’s commitment to the delivery of more dividends of democracy to the people.
