Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved the appointment of the Executive Chairman of the Hajj Commission and nine other members for a four-year term.
Zulum’s spokesman, Dauda Iliya, stated this in a press statement made available to newsmen in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
“The Governor appointed Alhaji Mohammed Dawule Mainok as the Executive Chairman, while Haruna Kukawa will serve as the Vice Chairman of the commission.
He said that prior to the appointments, Mainok served as the former acting secretary of the defunct Borno State Pilgrims Welfare Board, while Kukawa was a former member of the Borno State House of Assembly, representing the Kukawa constituency.
He said that Zulum also appointed Abatcha Umar and Haruna Mari as full-time members of the commission, while Mohammed Ali Ahmed is the secretary of the commission.
The governor in the statement clarified, “The chairman and members of the Hajj Commission are to serve for an initial term of four years,” adding that their appointments could be renewed for another four years.
He, therefore, directed Alhaji Mainok to operate under the office of the Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, to ensure effective supervision and monitoring of hajj operations in the state and Saudi Arabia.
