Borno losing fight against terrorism, kidnaping in Borno

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has said that the fight against terrorism and kidnapping is losing ground with incessant attacks and killings in communities and border areas with Niger and Cameroon.
According to him, the insurgents have dislodged military formations at Wajirko, Sabon-Gari, Wulgo, Firgi and Izge in Gwoza, Ngala and Damboa local council areas.
Zulum raised the alarm, yesterday, at an expanded Security Council Meeting, held at the Government House, Maiduguri.
He said, “The insecurity concerns, are however, a set back in protecting people’s lives and property not only in the Northeast, but the entire region comprising six states.”
“As I address members of the security council meeting today, the renewed Boko Haram attacks and kidnapping is almost on a daily basis.
He lamenting that this signaled the lossing grounds in the counter-terrorism operations of the military and other security agencies in the state.
Zulum, therefore called called on the military and other security agencies to put in more efforts, by deploying innovations and technology to end the 15-year terrorism that has claimed about 40,000 lives with the destruction of $9.2 billion (N14.7 trillion) worth of property in the region.
He noted that the renewed security measures, at the end of this security meeting, will stem the incessant attacks on communities in Abadam, Guzamala and Marte Local Government Areas, including the border areas.
He warned that with the exit of Niger from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Borno state shares borders with Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic.
The expanded security council meeting was attended by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Maj-Gen. Abubakar Haruna, Military Sector Commanders, Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, heads of other security agencies, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi, Shehus of Bama and Dikwa, and other Emir’s from Gwoza, Biu, Uba and Askira in south senatorial district of the state.
