Borno NUJ Urges Journalists to Promote Peace, Development
By Tada Jutha ,Maiduguri
The Borno State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on its members to continue playing a vital role in fostering peace and supporting the state’s development efforts.
The call was made in Maiduguri through the Eid al-Adha goodwill message delivered by the Council Chairman, Comrade Abdulkareem Haruna.
In his message, Haruna extended heartfelt Eid greetings to Muslims across Borno, emphasizing that the sacred festival offers a profound reminder of the values of sacrifice, strong faith, and compassion — as demonstrated by Prophet Abraham’s unwavering obedience to God.
He described the Sallah period as a moment for deep reflection, recommitment to moral values, and a time to strengthen community ties and foster unity among the people.
The NUJ Chairman encouraged members to actively support the state’s rebuilding and recovery initiatives, especially in the wake of over a decade of destruction caused by the Boko Haram insurgency, which has led to significant loss of lives and property.
He stressed that this support can be most effective when journalists uphold truth, justice, and ethical standards in both their reportage and conduct.
Speaking on behalf of the union, Haruna also offered prayers for the safety and success of the military and security forces working to restore lasting peace across the six insurgency-affected states — particularly Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.
