By Tada Juthan, Maiduguri
Troops of Sector 3 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have killed two terrorists with the recovery of arms and ammunition in the hideouts of Kwatan Dowoshi of Kukawa local council of Borno state.
The recovered arms and ammunition were made during a covert military operation on July 8, 2024, in the Kwatan Dowoshi community.
MNJTF Spokesman Lt-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi disclosed yesterday (Sunday) in a statement in Maiduguri that the coordinated ground operations resulted in the neutralisation of two Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at their hideouts.
“Our troops also recovered several arams, including seven AK-47 rifle magazines, 148 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four magazine carriers.
Other items recovered from the terrorists included 172 tax and levy receipts for farmers and fishermen living on the shores of Lake Chad.
Continuing, Abdullahi added: “There were two Baofeng radios, and a large quantity of assorted drugs were also seized from the terrorists.”
He noted that the significant recoveries of weapons and supplies will undoubtedly disrupt the terrorist group’s ability to carry out attacks in the region.
In a related development, five terrorists surrendered to troops of the taskforce in Wulgo on July 11, 2024, comprising the Cameroonian and Nigerian forces.
He said the surrendered terrorists are from Tunbouma and Kutungulla villages in the Marte local council of the state.
The spokesman explained that the surrendered terrorists are undergoing profiling and further investigation.
The Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, commended the troops and the hybrid forces for their gallantry on the battle fields.
Ali, therefore, called on other terrorists still in the Lake Chad region to lay down their arms and surrender to the military.
He noted that the ongoing military operations are significant in ridding the remnants of terrorists and restoring peace in the region.
