Buni Engages Stakeholders, CSOs on Inclusive, Accountable Governance
By Njadvara Musa, Damaturu
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has reaffirmed his commitment to accountable and inclusive governance by engaging a cross-section of stakeholders, civil society organisations (CSOs), women groups, and residents at a town hall meeting in Damaturu, the state capital.
The one-day forum, held on Thursday, was organised by the Office of the Special Adviser on Radio, Television, and Digital Media to commemorate Buni’s six years in office and highlight the administration’s achievements in delivering the dividends of democracy.
The interactive session, which lasted over three hours, featured a robust question-and-answer segment with journalists, CSOs, and members of the public. Discussions centred on progress made in key sectors such as education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, and agriculture.
Expressing gratitude for the large turnout, Governor Buni described the successes of his administration as a result of collective effort and citizen support across Yobe’s 17 local government areas.
“The past six years in office have been shaped by our joint commitment to transparency and improving the lives of our people,” he said. “Together, we have overcome challenges and advanced sustainable development to safeguard lives and property, including in border communities near the Niger Republic.”
The governor also highlighted milestones in agriculture, youth empowerment, and peacebuilding, despite the state’s prolonged battle with the Boko Haram insurgency, which caused widespread devastation.
A key highlight of the event was the official launch of The Yobe Journal, a special publication documenting six years of Buni’s leadership, economic reforms, and the resilience of Yobe communities in the face of insecurity and hardship.
Governor Buni urged continued public support and unity across ethnic and religious lines, emphasising the importance of peace and cooperation in sustaining development.
“Our legacy must be one of inclusive economic growth that leaves no community behind, even those on the fringes of the state,” he stated.
Participants at the town hall, including residents and media professionals, praised the governor’s people-focused approach and reaffirmed their support as his administration enters its final two years.
