Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, the Commissioner of Police, and heads of other security agencies have reviewed the security situation in preparation for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Sallah festivities, scheduled for Friday, are expected to be peaceful and hitch-free, in line with the directive of Governor Buni, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Representing the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, stated yesterday in Damaturu: “Today’s meeting with the police and other security agencies was necessary to assess the security situation across the state.”
He explained that the meeting aimed to ensure the adoption of comprehensive security measures for the forthcoming Eid celebration in all 17 Local Government Areas, including communities bordering the Republic of Niger.
The SSG noted that while the general security situation in the state remains calm, residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious movement of individuals or vehicles throughout the four-day celebration period.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the security meeting, the Commissioner of Police—represented by his Deputy, Saleh Sama’ila—said the meeting focused on implementing robust security arrangements to ensure a smooth and safe celebration.
“We also agreed on how to effectively manage all aspects of the Sallah festivities, including the protection of lives and property,” he stated.
In addition to outlining the security strategy, the Police Chief disclosed that security personnel would be deployed from Thursday to various communities, including border areas such as Geidam, Machina, Yunusari, and Bade.
