Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the recruitment of 267 health technicians to meet the manpower requirements of healthcare facilities in 178 communities.
According to him, 178 primary healthcare centres were established for the people to access affordable services at the health facilities.
The Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, stated this in a press statement made available on Monday in Damaturu.
“The recruitment of the health technicians included 140 Buni scholars, who recently graduated in the various fields of medical sciences from India.”
The DG further disclosed that the Buni scholars comprise 43 each of nurses and pharmacists, 22 medical laboratory scientists, 24 radiologists, seven optometrists, and a public health graduate.
He noted that the 127 health technicians are currently serving as volunteers in various health institutions across the state.
Buni, therefore, directed the employment of the health technicians, who graduated earlier, but they were not formally employed while serving as volunteers in the various medical centres across the state.
The governor further directed that his medical scholars be placed on CONHESS 8, while the volunteer technicians earn CONHESS 6, step two.
The Buni administration had, in the last five years, employed graduates of the state-owned Shehu Suleiman College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu, to meet personnel requirements of hospitals and other health facilities.
Similarly, in boosting health delivery services to achieve universal health coverage (UHC) by 2030, the state government upgraded four general hospitals in Gashua, Potiskum, Buni/Yadi, and Geidam to specialist hospitals and eight primary healthcare centres to general hospitals.
He stated that the upgrade of hospitals and healthcare centres was to deliver services that are accessible and affordable to the people in the state.
