Chief of Defence Staff Mourns Late Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, Calls Him a “Courageous and Loyal Leader”
In a heartfelt statement, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, who died on Tuesday following a brief illness. General Musa, speaking on behalf of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, and all Nigerians, describing the late General as a courageous, hard-working, and dedicated service chief.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja, appointed Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, made significant contributions to the security of Nigeria, including his leadership in launching the Nigerian Army Aviation Wing and guiding key security operations across various states. His efforts in missions like Operation Forest Sanitation in Kaduna and Niger States, and other vital initiatives in Borno, Benue, and the Southeast, underscore his relentless commitment to a safer Nigeria.
General Musa acknowledged the late General’s legacy, emphasizing his contributions to national defense and security. “His service and loyalty to the nation leave an indelible mark on the Armed Forces and the country,” he stated. General Musa also extended prayers for comfort to Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s family, especially his wife, Mrs. Maria Lagbaja, during this difficult time.
