COAS vows to protect residents, others in Northeast

The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has vowed to protect people’s lives and property with improved security, despite the last Saturday attack on the Buni/Gari community and a military base in the Gujba Local Council of Yobe State.
Oluyede unveiled the security measures on Thursday during a visit to Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Government House, Damaturu.
He revealed that his personal connection with the state was while he served as the Sector 2 Brigade Commander in Yobe.
“We’re here today to assure the people of the state that despite the recent insecurity setbacks the security situation will improve to secure both lives and property,” assuring that things are going to change in securing the people in their communities.
Oluyede, however, refused to disclose details of the security measures, stating, “I will not tell you the security measures for the state.
The Yobe people should rest assured that things will improve, and they should not fear terrorist attacks and kidnappings in any part of the state.”
The general highlighted the key issues in addressing the insecurity situation by the deployment of more troops and fighting equipment to prevent the resurgence of terrorism.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to unite against terrorism, warning that instability in the Sahel region could spill over to Nigeria, particularly the northern states of the country.
“We need to come together more than ever before in checkmating all the myriads of insecurity,” warning that if we fail, we won’t have a country to live in.
This is why he said that everyone’s cooperation was needed to secure the Northeast.
