Commander inspires wounded soldiers not to relent in N’East terrorism, banditry fights
The Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maj-Gen. Waidi Shuaibu, has urged the wounded soldiers not to relent in their fight against terrorism, kidnapping and banditry in the Northeast and Northwest regions of the country.
According to him, terrorism in the Northeast has claimed about 40,000 lives with the destruction of $9.2 billion (N14.72 trillion) worth of property.
Shuaibu inspired the wounded soldiers during a luncheon to mark the end of the Eid-el-Fitr Ramadan fast at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
He said that the Ramadan period witnessed efforts of troops and the wounded ones to spur their spiritual growth in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Northeast.
“As we welcome you to celebrate this blessed day, I want you to take a moment to acknowledge the tremendous efforts and sacrifices made by you here today,” as well as the wounded soldiers at the Eid-el-Fitr luncheon.
The general noted that the troops’ bravery, resilience and commitment are truly inspired to “secure and build” the nation for sustained economic development and growth.
Highlighting the contributions of other security agencies and civil society organisations (CSOs), he noted that their joint efforts are invaluable in ending the 15-year Boko Haram insurgency.
He added that the synergy among the military and other security agencies in the Northeast has yielded remarkable results by clearing the remnants of terrorists from Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
In ending the war of insurgency, the theatre commander urged the Borno State government, led by Governor Babagana Zulum, to continue supporting the military and other security agencies towards ending the activities of terrorists in the state and region.
He also stressed that the joint efforts are to achieve the theatre command’s mandate in facilitating the restoration of peace in the region for economic activities to thrive.
