Covid-19:Borno Sets To Reopen Schools

 Borno State Commissioner of Education, Bello Ayuba has said Government has taken measures to reopen the 84 Secondary schools in the State.

The Education Commissioner, Bello Ayuba stated this on Monday in Maiduguri.

“We’ve taken very strong preventive measures concerning the spread of Covid-19 in schools to be reopened on October 26, 2020.”

He said that the schools had already been fumigated before re-opening them over the seven-month Covid-19 pandemic.

“The state government has funded the procurement of items that will be used to prevent the virus in schools.

 “We also made sure that testing facilities for the coronavirus, including hand sanitizers and face masks; are provided in all schools.

According to him, the distribution of hand sanitizers, face masks and testing equipment; is to prevent the deadly virus among students and teachers.

He said social distancing in schools is also to be strictly adhered to by school authorities.

 “Governor Babagana Zulum directed all school principals to adhere to guidelines of re-opening schools.”

On challenges of overcrowding in schools, he said: “During the WAEC and NECO examinations conducted for JSS three and SS three students have been completed.

He said the students that have completed their final examinations will also remain at homes, while the schools are re-opened to create more classroom space and in accordance with social distancing at school premises.

“We’ll be left with two sets of learners in all the schools, slated for reopening on October 26, 2020,” he said, noting that it will also provide enough classrooms to accommodate students in schools.

“This is also in accordance with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols on COVID-19.”
