David Mark Decries Rising Insecurity in Benue, Urges Federal Action
Former Senate President, David Mark, has voiced strong concern over the worsening security situation in Benue State, describing the ongoing killings as “senseless, tragic, and unacceptable.”
In a statement issued on Monday in Kano by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Mumeh, Mark urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to curb the violence and restore peace in the state.
“The primary duty of any government is to ensure the welfare and security of its people,” Mark said. “This is the unfortunate reality confronting the people of Benue. Government must rise to its responsibility.”
The former Senate President called on the Federal Government to fulfill its constitutional duty of safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens, particularly those living in violence-prone areas.
He also appealed to the state government, led by Governor Hyacinth Alia, to strengthen its efforts in protecting the people and supporting victims of attacks.
Mark further urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those behind the violence.
In a message of encouragement to the people of Benue, he called for unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
“This is a trying moment for our people,” he said. “We must unite, mobilise, and speak with one voice against the invaders. We must refuse to bow to fear.”
He encouraged residents to remain law-abiding, uphold community spirit, and continue supporting one another in these challenging times.
