A torrential downpour that hit Dogon Ruwa, a peaceful town in the Kaltungo Local Government Area of Gombe State, on Friday, plunged the area into an unprecedented disaster.
500 people had their lives drastically affected by the constant, intense rain that fell from 11 am to 3 pm, overflowing water channels, causing many homes to collapse, and primarily harming women and children.

Brave inhabitants made heroic attempts to save their possessions and save their collapsing buildings in a show of tenacity, but sadly some of them were injured. Domesticated animals were also affected by the tragedy, contributing to the community’s grief.
A well-known community leader named Aliyu Isah Sain Dogon – Ruwa described the terrifying incidents, saying that the flood caught everyone off guard, causing houses to collapse and people to flee for their lives. Their homes’ wells flooded, leaving them to deal with the consequences and seek safety on the school grounds.
Unfortunately, the impacted neighbourhood has not yet received any assistance, leaving them open to dangerous waterborne diseases from tainted water supplies. The loss of their source of income dominates their thoughts as they evaluate their losses and work to reconstruct their lives.
Muhammad SARKIN HAUSAWA, a member of the community, has urgently pleaded with the Kaltungo LGA, the Gombe State Government, NGOs, caring people, and other concerned parties to quickly lend a helping hand and stop the situation from getting worse in light of this catastrophe.
