Development: Forum passes vote of confidence on NEDC

Northern Civil Society Forum ( NCSF) dedicated to democracy, good governance, responsiveness and accountability of government in the North East has expressed satisfaction with the Management and activities of the North East Development Commission.
Raising from a mid-year retreat meant to do an appraisal of the activities of Governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, the Forum commended the Commission for its giant strides in bringing development to the grassroots in all the states of the North East.

It also advises the Commission to up its partnership with stakeholders in the North East particularly the Governors, NGOs so as to quickly rebuild the subregion and rehabilitate the citizens that were displaced due to years of violence.
The Forum’s retreat in Maiduguri aimed to discuss strategies on effective service delivery, peace and transparency and accountability in the sub-region, further lampooned a faceless group called the Northern Vanguard For Good Governance trying to truncate the peace in the region.
According to the NCSF, the so-called North Vanguard For Good Governance does not exist and does not represent the people of the North East.
NCSF, therefore, urged citizens and groups that want to speak on behalf of the Northeast, should do so genuinely especially in this period terrorism has eaten deep in the Northeast.
Any group that have concerns and issues to follow due process and should be demanding accountability and transparency rather than engaging in character assassination.
It also kicked against the attacks on innocent citizens from other regions by groups claiming to be seeking to break away from Nigeria while calling for calm and asked that North East indigenes should avoid retaliatory actions.

The Forum finally held on to a Popular belief “in a one Nigeria” stating, that Nigeria will always remain as one strong indivisible country.”
