The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals, Dennis Baba Wdony, Wycliffe Midala, and Samuel Kayode Melaye, for allegedly impersonating military officers and using the office of the Chief of Defence Staff to defraud unsuspecting members of the public through fake contract awards.
According to investigations, the suspects operated a three-man syndicate that advertised fake bids for contracts in the name of the Chief of Defence Staff’s office. The EFCC received multiple petitions regarding their fraudulent activities, with one victim claiming to have lost N21 million to their scams.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. This arrest highlights the EFCC’s commitment to combating fraud and impersonation in the country.
The public is warned to be cautious of such scams and to verify the authenticity of contracts and military personnel before engaging in any business transactions.
