FG urges Gombe Govt to prioritize National Safe Care Guideline


The Federal Ministry of  Health in collaboration with other development partners have appealed to Gombe state Government to prioritize the National Safe Care Guideline that has been developed by the Federal Government into the plans and policies of the state.

Mr Lawrence Anyanwu Director Family Planning branch Federal Ministry of Health, leader of the delegation made the appeal recently when the team paid an advocacy visit to the  Commissioner of Health Dr Habu Dahiru in Gombe.

He said the purpose of their visit was to engage stakeholders on the National self-care guideline that has been developed to ensure that Nigerians were empowered to take care of their immediate health needs.

“ We are here on advocacy as the gatekeeper of the health care delivery in Gombe state, to engage you, let you know of this important document, prioritize it in the plans and policies of the state.

“We want you to do that so that it could be funded, improve on the Human Resources and infrastructure capacity in the state.

According to him, there were health interventions that individuals can help themselves in accessing without necessarily waiting for the intervention of health care service providers.
“Especially now that we are having the covid-19 pandemic challenge, we have to take precautionary measures to prevent undue exposure to other individuals,” he said.

He said the guidelines have been developed under the leadership of the reproductive health division with support from JOHN Snow Incorporated Association for Reproductive Health, Pathfinder International and World Health Organization among others.

He said the next step was to ensure that the document introduced was rolled out to all the states of the federation so that stakeholders at these states can take over and ensure holistic implementation for the wellbeing of the citizens of the state.

In his response, Dr Habu Dahiru Commissioner of Health said Governor Inuwa Yahaya had prioritized health and his administration was committed to supporting partnerships.

“ I want to assure you that, Government will give high priority to this programme during its implementation because we are very much aware of the role these organizations played in the past in the state,” he said.
