The Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Ali, has reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to achieving its mandate of restoring peace to the Lake Chad Region. Furthermore, he expressed the Force’s dedication to aiding communities in their resettlement efforts, enabling them to return to normal lives and resume their economic activities.
Speaking to Northeast Star in a telephone conversation, General Ali addressed the circulating rumors on social media, categorically debunking the claims that Niger had withdrawn from the MNJTF following the recent military coup in the country. He dismissed such insinuations as baseless and clearly intended to incite panic and sow seeds of insecurity among the border communities.
The MNJTF, which comprises military personnel from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria, has been working together in a unified front since it’s inception.
The Force Commander stated that the Staff Officers from Niger are currently working side by side with other contingents.
General Ali further acknowledged the detrimental consequences of creating a void within the MNJTF, the new leadership he adds, must be seen to express their resolute determination to sustain Niger’s active involvement in their own interest.
In an appeal to the media, General Ali implored journalists and news outlets to prioritize regional security above sensationalism. He urged them to seek clarification where needed, and exercise responsible reporting, refraining from disseminating unverified information that only serves to amplify fear and perpetuate instability. General Ali’s call for responsible journalism underscores the crucial role the media plays in fostering an environment of trust and promoting accurate, verified reporting.
General Ali further assured that the MNJTF remains steadfast in its mission and is fully poised to accomplish its mandate within the shortest possible time. Through collaborative efforts, dedication, and a shared vision of peace, the MNJTF is resolute in its commitment to restoring lasting stability to the Lake Chad Region.
