FRCN Commits to Restoring Borno TV, Radio Services After Flood Damage
The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) has pledged to support Borno Radio Television (BRTV) in restoring its operations after the recent Maiduguri floods. The Director-General of FRCN, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, made this announcement during a visit to Borno’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, on Tuesday, October 2.
Dr. Bulama expressed FRCN’s commitment to assist BRTV in rehabilitating its flood-damaged facilities. He also revealed plans for FRCN to take over BRTV’s obsolete Medium Wave Transmitter along Bama Road, Maiduguri. In the interim, Peace FM Maiduguri, an FRCN station, will strengthen its capacity to ensure continuous broadcast service delivery.
Bulama highlighted the importance of rebuilding media infrastructure to ensure accurate and timely public information, especially in crisis situations. In response, Prof. Tar expressed gratitude for the support and reiterated the state government’s willingness to collaborate with FRCN in improving media operations in Borno.
The devastating flood, caused by a breakdown of spillways at the Alau dam on September 10, submerged Maiduguri, affecting homes, public buildings, and farmlands, and displacing thousands of households.
