General Jamal Abdussalam Bids Farewell to 6 Division, Charges Troops to Prioritize National Interest
The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has urged troops to remain committed to putting national interest above all other considerations.
Speaking at the 16 Brigade in Yenagoa on January 16, 2025, Major General Abdussalam emphasized the importance of avoiding compromise and ensuring zero connivance with economic saboteurs in the region. He reminded the troops of their critical role in achieving the 2.3 million barrel per day (bpd) target set by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is the benchmark for the national budget.
The GOC expressed pride in the troops’ achievements, noting that their efforts have led to a significant increase in oil output, from 1.2 million to over 1.88 million bpd. He attributed this success to the troops’ hard work and dedication, which has also reduced illegal bunkering activities, economic sabotage, and associated criminalities in the region.
General Abdussalam also acknowledged the positive feedback from the general public, who have noticed a cleaner atmosphere with reduced issues related to black soot. He encouraged the troops to sustain their efforts, emphasizing that collective efforts are necessary to achieve the desired end-state.
As he bowed out as GOC, Major General Abdussalam saluted the resilience and commitment of the troops, urging them to remain disciplined, committed, and professional in discharging their responsibilities. He also visited sister services, including the Mobility Command of the Nigerian Air Force, Central Naval Command, Nigerian Navy, and Headquarters, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, as part of his farewell tour.
