  Gombe Gov assures NYSC members of security in Gombe

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has assured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of adequate security during their stay in the state.

Gov. Yahaya gave the assurance on Monday during the inauguration ceremony of the 2020 ‘Batch B Stream 1A’ orientation course for corps members at the temporary orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe state.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Julius Ishaya, Yahaya said his administration was committed to securing lives and properties of corps members.

“ Let me assure you that government is committed to ensuring the security, welfare and wellbeing of every corps member deployed to the state.

“ We shall continue to collaborate with security agencies in the state to ensure security within and outside the camp for your safety, “ he stated.

He urged corps members to exhibit good conduct while in the camp by obeying all rules and regulation as well as the camp officials, adding that the physical and psychological training is to instill discipline in them.

The governor appealed to corps members to comply with the COVID-19 protocols as “doing this will help sustain the fight against the pandemic.”

In his remarks, Alh. Bappayo Yahaya, Head of Service, Gombe state charged the corps members to leverage the skills acquisition programme during the orientation year to help stem the tide of unemployment.

Yahaya who is also the chairman National Youths Service Corps Governing Board in the state, said skills acquisition programme was introduced to awaken the interest of corps members in job creation after their service year.

Speaking earlier, Mrs. Florence Yaakugh, the State Co-ordinator of NYSC, urged the corps members to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols while in camp.

Yaakugh said the orientation course was designed to inculcate discipline in corps members as well as give them a platform to exhibit their leadership qualities.

“ Here, you shall know and learn about discipline, perseverance, respect, unity, culture and religious tolerance amongst other things as this is aimed at building ideal citizen and leaders that will make our nation proud, “ she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 643 corps members were registered for the orientation exercise comprising 319 males and 324 females.
