Gombe marathon is an annual competition organised by a group of young men and women in Gombe to discourage the use of illicit drugs among the youths while giving cash prizes to those who distinguish themselves in the run against a drug free society.
The Director General applauded the group for initiating the annual Gombe marathon which seeks to discourage the consumption of illicit drugs among the youth.
“Anything that has to do with the youth, the Governor is keen on it and i can assure you this one will not be an exception,” Misilli said.
He said the establishment of the Gombe Industrial park and the positioning of the State as number one in the ease of doing business in the country tell of the Governor’s desire to create an economic hub where the youths can be gainfully employed irrespective of their academic background.
Earlier, the convener of the Gombe marathon, Shadrach Nzomisaki said the annual exercise is aimed at running for a drug-free Gombe State and by extension Nigeria.
He said according to a BBC report, about 30,000 bottles of cough syrup are consumed daily in Kano state noting since Kano is not far from Gombe State, the possibility of a spill is just a matter of when and not if.
