The Amalgamated APC Support Groups Think Tank and the All Progressives Support Groups Forum have issued a statement urging calm and opposing the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1st, 2024.
Convener of the Amalgamated APC Support Groups, Dr. AK Peters, in the statement Friday stated that the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs more time to address the country’s challenges, having demonstrated sincerity and capacity to fix inherited anomalies.
The group called on its members and leaders to activate their structures and avert the planned protest, which they believe will only lead to destruction of lives and property. They emphasized that violence is not the solution to Nigeria’s problems.
The statement also sought to counter the narrative of the protest organizers by highlighting the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

In light of this, the group directed its members to take specific actions. Firstly, they were instructed not to participate in the planned protest. Instead, they were encouraged to appeal for calm from those who were planning to protest.
Additionally, members were directed to showcase the President’s achievements, spreading awareness of the positive work being done by the administration. They were also tasked with passing the message of peace in their local communities, including wards, villages, and polling units.
Furthermore, members were urged to report anyone inciting violence to the security agencies, helping to maintain peace and order. Finally, they were encouraged to peacefully protest against those who sought to cause chaos and destruction, promoting a message of unity and stability.
The group’s survey shows that over 80% of Nigerians oppose the protest, fearing it may be hijacked. They urge members to make efforts to prevent the protest and report their actions.
