IGP sets conditions for 2023 electioneering campaigns of political parties

The Inspector General Police (IGP), Usman Alkali has set conditions for the 2023 electioneering campaigns of 18 political parties in the country.
According to him, compliance to the electioneering conditions was to allow the police to regulate parties’ campaigns and procedures before next year’s elections.
Unveiling the electioneering campaigns conditions, at the weekend in Benisheikh, Borno state, he disclosed: “If a political party wants to conduct a campaign in Benisheikh, the other party should remain behind, until the first one completes the electioneering campaigns.”

He said that the scheduled campaigns of political parties was to prevent them from clashing at any political arena in the six geopolitical zones.
Continued; “We’re preparing, training and equipping ourselves to ensure that the 2023 general elections are free, credible and just,” stating that the police have pledged to the government to provide an enabling environment for electioneering campaigns of the political parties.
He said this will enable the police to perform effectively during the forthcoming general elections.
“Allow us to regulate your campaigns and procedures,” he said.
He, therefore, appealed to the politicians to play the game according to its rules and regulations.
He assured that there is nothing to fear in the 2023 elections if the games are played according to the 2021 Electoral Act.
