IWD is celebrated on March 8 annually to raise awareness on women issues.
The 2023 IWD theme is “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for gender equality”.
She said the call was imperative towards empowering women to compete favourably in the social, economy and technology.
“Women and girls are shapers of an equal future, the more they are included in the creation of technology, the less vulnerable they will be – and the more all the society will benefit.
“Technology is essential to advancing gender equality. If women and girls can access and use technology safely, they can amplify their voices, thereby giving them a platform that can transform their future,” she said.
Awak commended the Wife of the state governor, Asama’u Yahaya for ensuring that women accorded their rightful place and position in the state.
She said the 2023 theme was apt and timely considering the Nigerian transition to a cashless society where technology plays a vital role.
“Women, esppecially in rural areas are largely relegated and put to unnecessary hardship amid COVID-19 recovery process”.
