Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur has bid farewell to the first batch of 315 intending pilgrims to Makkah and Medina in Saudi Arabia.
According to him, the pilgrimage is an opportunity to fulfil one of the pillars of Islam during the 2025 hajj exercise.
Speaking on Monday at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport (MBIA), Maiduguri, Kadafur expressed gratitude to God for granting the pilgrims the opportunity to fulfil one of the five pillars of Islam.
He urged the pilgrims, including women, to be good ambassadors to the state and Nigeria, stating, “You’re to conduct yourselves with utmost discipline, patience, and devotion throughout the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The deputy governor prayed for a safe journey to and from the Holy Land and asked God to accept their acts of worship during the pilgrimage.
He said the remaining intending pilgrims will be airlifted from the airport in the subsequent flight batches to Saudi Arabia.
Other dignitaries that bid farewell to the pilgrims included Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing the Borno Central Senatorial District; officials of the Borno State Hajj Commission; religious leaders; and the security personnel that ensured the smooth departures of the intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
