Kebbi Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Welfare, Bags Awards on May Day
The Kebbi State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare, rights, and privileges of civil servants, assuring continuous support for the workforce that drives the state’s progress.
Governor Nasir Idris gave this assurance during the 2025 May Day celebration held in Birnin Kebbi, where he addressed a vibrant gathering of workers, labour leaders, and stakeholders. He described the workforce as a cornerstone of development, emphasizing that their contribution remains indispensable to the state’s growth.
“Your dedication, hard work, and perseverance are the backbone of our economy,” the Governor said. “We recognize your challenges and remain resolute in addressing them.”
Governor Idris, a former union leader himself, commended the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for their consistent advocacy, urging workers to remain committed to service delivery and state development.
In his remarks, the Kebbi State NLC Chairman, Comrade Murtala Usman, applauded the Governor for his continued prioritization of workers’ welfare. He highlighted Idris’ presence at the celebration as symbolic, given his strong roots in labour activism.
The event featured a colourful match pass by various unions, and the presentation of an ‘Award of Excellence’ to Governor Idris by the Kebbi State chapters of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses. The State NLC also honoured several individuals for their outstanding roles in promoting the state’s development.
The celebration served as a powerful reminder of the value of workers and the importance of sustained government-labour collaboration in shaping a prosperous future for Kebbi State.
