In a heartening development, the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity 2 has successfully restored peace and security to communities around the Lake Chad islets, particularly in the southern regions. This milestone was acknowledged during a visit by the Chadian Sultan of Kinassaram, Abakar Yerima, to the troops of Task Force Kirta in Darak, Cameroon, on June 26, 2024.
The Sultan’s visit was a gesture of appreciation for the tireless efforts of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) troops in ensuring the safety and well-being of local residents. He commended the progress made since the operation began, noting that farmers and fishermen can now pursue their livelihoods without fear of threats.
As a symbol of gratitude, the Sultan donated sheep to the troops, acknowledging their dedication and hard work in the face of challenging conditions, including threats from terrorists’ improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Navy Captain Patrick Nnom Mabiom, commander of Task Force Kirta, expressed his appreciation for the support and cooperation from the local community, reassuring that the troops remain committed to achieving lasting peace in the region.
This development highlights the success of Operation Lake Sanity 2 in bringing peace and security to the Lake Chad area, enabling residents to rebuild their lives and livelihoods.
