NAFDAC Destroys Harmful Products Worth N10 Billion in Gombe
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday destroyed harmful products valued at N10 billion in Gombe State. The items, which included food, drugs, and other regulated goods, were seized from six states in the North East: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, and Yobe.
During the event, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by Zonal Director Mr. Kenneth Azukwe, commended the agency’s enforcement officers for their diligence in intercepting the dangerous products. She highlighted NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring that only safe, high-quality products—ranging from food items and drugs to medical devices and packaged water—are sold in Nigeria.
“NAFDAC stands at the forefront of public health protection, implementing strict standards that are recognized both nationally and globally,” Adeyeye stated, adding that the agency remains vigilant in its efforts to rid markets of substandard and falsified products.
The destruction of these items, she said, sends a strong message to those seeking to profit at the expense of public safety. NAFDAC will continue to enhance regulatory frameworks and intensify surveillance to ensure violators are held accountable.
NAFDAC’s Gombe Coordinator, Mr. James Agada, noted that some expired products were voluntarily handed over to the agency, while Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, praised NAFDAC’s efforts in reducing the spread of diseases through its regulatory actions.
