NEDC Moves to Rescue Vital Link: Wagga-Madigali Bridge Reconstruction Imminent
In a bid to prevent a critical transportation link from collapsing, Mr. Alkali Goni, Director-General of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), has announced plans to reconstruct the Wagga-Madigali bridge connecting Adamawa and Borno states.
During an inspection of ongoing projects in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa on Friday, Goni highlighted the urgent need for the bridge’s reconstruction, citing its deteriorating condition.
He emphasised that the bridge, on the verge of collapse, poses a threat to vital road connectivity between the two states.
Expressing satisfaction with ongoing and completed projects in Yola, Hong, and Madagali LGAs, Goni underscored the importance of these developments in enhancing local infrastructure.
Meanwhile, stakeholders like Prof. Benson Baha of Adamawa College of Education in Hong Kong praised NEDC for improving access roads to the institution, which had been neglected for decades.
Residents, including Mr. Mathew Maziga of Madagali, also lauded NEDC for various developmental initiatives but urged swift action on the Wagga-Madagali bridge to avert potential isolation of communities.
Projects under NEDC’s purview span critical infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and educational facilities, aimed at fostering socio-economic growth across the region.
The commission continues to push forward with its agenda; the imminent reconstruction of the Wagga-Madigali bridge stands out as a crucial step in ensuring uninterrupted connectivity and fostering sustainable development in the North-East.
