By Tada Jutha, Maiduguri
The Borno State Police Commissioner, Naziru Adulmajid, has read a riot act to police officers and men on corruption, human rights abuse, and other unethical conduct while performing their duties in the state.
The riot act is inevitable to relentlessly sustain and improve the gains recorded in the fight against crime, insurgency, and other threats to public safety.
Addressing the about 180 policemen yesterday in Maiduguri, Abdulmajid, the 43rd new Police Chief stated, “This command under my leadership will adopt a professional, intelligence-led, and community-orientated policy approach,” adding that the adoption of the approach will address the unique security challenges, including insurgency and kidnapping in Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region.
Highlighting his commitment to a secured state, Abdulmajid said, “I am here to serve with dedication, fairness, and an unwavering commitment to peace and security,” noting that the state has shown remarkable resilience in the face of adversity.
Beyond his commitment to zero tolerance for corruption and human rights abuses, he stated, “I am fully aware of the complex security landscape,” assuring that the police and various communities will work relentlessly to sustain and improve the gains recorded in fighting crimes, terrorism, and other threats to life and property.
In securing people’s lives and property, he pledged to enhance visibility policing to strengthen collaboration with sister security agencies by partnering with traditional institutions, religious leaders, civil society organisations (CSOs), and the media.
He noted that security is a shared responsibility with the support of communities in ensuring a secure state against insurgency and other crimes.
The police chief urged the public to cooperate by sharing information with “trust and intelligence” to overcome the challenges of insecurity to lives and property.
Abdulmajid, therefore, called on the policemen to remain professional, disciplined, and committed to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) core values that foster a secured environment where every resident in the state can live, work, and thrive in peace.
