Nigerian Army Debunks Leadership Vacuum Rumors, Assures of Normal Operations

The Nigerian Army (NA) has reaffirmed that its operational and administrative activities are proceeding as usual, despite the official leave of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen TA Lagbaja. The Army in a statement by the Director of Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, has in a statement dismissed claims of a leadership vacuum, emphasizing its structured establishment and well-laid-out procedures for handling various situations.
Recently, the Nigerian Army has achieved significant milestones, demonstrating its commitment to routine activities and adherence to established procedures. One notable achievement is the successful conduct of the Captain-Major Practical Promotion Examination in Akure. This exercise showcases the Army’s dedication to advancing the careers of its officers.
Additionally, the Nigerian Army has made progress in promoting its warrant officers. The Master Warrant Officer to Army Warrant Officer Promotion Exercise is currently underway in Jos, following the successful completion of the Warrant Officer to Master Warrant Officer (WO-MWO) promotion exercise in Kaduna. The results of these exercises are expected to be released soon, pending final reconciliation between the respective Corps and the Army Headquarters Department of Personnel Management.
These accomplishments Nwachukwu said attest to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to its duties despite the COAS’s absence.
The Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Abdulsalami Bagudu Ibrahim, is effectively overseeing affairs pending the COAS’s return, ensuring continuity and stability within the organization.
The Army Headquarters has encouraged the public to remain confident in the NA’s ability to maintain security and defend Nigeria’s territory. The NA remains focused on its duties and is fully equipped to address any security challenges.
“The Army Headquarters wishes to thank all well-meaning Nigerians who have shown genuine concern about Lt Gen TA Lagbaja and have continued to pray for him. We assure Nigerians and the international community that all land-related training, operational, and administrative activities are on course,” General Nwachukwu adds.
