North-east Governors to meet FG for provision of infrastructure in the region
The Northeast Governor’s Forum stressed the need for the diplomatic Communities and donor agencies to support the region to activate the process of transiting from humanitarian to stabilization to give people the opportunity to help themselves out of poverty.
The forum has also expressed satisfaction with an improved security situation in the region and called for sustained effort towards addressing the problem holistically.

During the forum’s fifth meeting, these were part of the resolution reached during the forum’s fifth meeting held Government House Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital on Tuesday.
Presenting the communique after the meeting, the Vice-Chairman of the forum and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri said the forum resolved to establish the regional council for education to ensure the provision of sound teaching and learning.
The ten points communique also stated that the forum noted the negative impact of drug and narcotic substances in the region and the extent to which it fuels the insurgency and other forms of criminality in the region.
The forum, therefore, called for support in the area of stopping drug trafficking and enforcing narcotic control within the region and across the borders.
While noting the North East Development Commission (NEDC) activities as an intervention agency in the region, the forum expressed deep concern that the level of consultation between the Commission and various State Governments with thin the region is slow.
The forum called on the Commission to consult the various State Governments within the region on priorities for intervention, location of projects and the development of the North East Masterplan among other things.
However, in an interview, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State said the Governors will meet President Muhammadu Buhari on the need for the federal government to consider the region in the provision of physical infrastructure for rapid socio-economic development.
Mohammed added that they were determined to come up with a robust agricultural framework aimed at ensuring food security in the Sub-region.
The meeting which was presided over by the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Borno State, Babaga Zulum has in attendance Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State and Deputy Governor of Yobe State.
The next meeting was slated for Saturday 9th of October this year in Yobe State.
