NPC commences birth registration for underage children in Taraba
The National Population Commission, says it will undertake birth registration for children under 5 years old during the Enumeration Area Demarcation exercise in Zing local government area of Taraba state.
The state-federal Commissioner of the Commissioner, Sani Sule Sale disclosed this during a 6-days training workshop and continuation of the exercise organized by the commission, holding in Zing local government council’s Secretariat.
The birth registration is the continuous, permanent and universal recording with the civil registry of the occurrence and characteristics of birth in accordance with the Nigerian laws.
It also confers on children, their legal identity and ensures their right of access to public services, social protection and human rights as well as enables them access to health, nutrition, child protection and education services.
According to Sani Sule Sale, at the end of the exercise, all registered children will be issued with birth certificates, which will confer on them full identity as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with all the privileges that entail.
He revealed that NPC had fully digitalized its civil Registration and Vital Statistics system, adding that all their LGA Controllers and registration officials have been trained.
The federal Commissioner, NPC, explained that the commission had also supplied them with the necessary equipment, including computers, printers and electricity generators to facilitate the birth registration and other vital events.
While appreciating the support of Zing local council for allocating an office to NPC, Sule also appealed to the Council Chairman, Andrews Zanya for a more spacious, convenient and secure facility that will accommodate their new equipment as well as the expected increase n the volume of operations.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Zing local government council, Andrews Zanya commended the NPC for choosing the local government and assured them of the local government council’s support for the success of the exercise.
On his part, the Kpanti Zing, HRH. Ibrahim Sulaiman thanked the National Population Commission for their commitment and pledged them the support and cooperation of traditional rulers in the area toward ensuring the success of the exercise.
