NUJ FCT, Nizamiye Hospital Team Up for Free Medical Outreach During Press Week
In a bid to foster healthier communities and support media professionals, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has sealed a partnership with Nizamiye Hospital, a leading private healthcare institution located in Jabi, Abuja.
The collaboration is set to kick off with a free medical outreach in June, forming a major highlight of the NUJ-FCT Press Week.
This initiative was solidified during a courtesy visit to Nizamiye Hospital, led by the Chairperson of the NUJ-FCT Council, Ms. Grace Ike. According to a statement released in Abuja on Monday, the outreach aims to boost public health education and deliver free medical services specifically tailored to journalists across the FCT.
Ms. Ike highlighted that the meeting created a platform to discuss broader opportunities for collaboration in health advocacy and social impact projects.
She praised Nizamiye Hospital’s unwavering dedication to quality medical care and its continued role in supporting underserved communities. She also emphasised NUJ’s readiness to help amplify the hospital’s humanitarian efforts through its wide media reach.
“This partnership extends beyond this outreach. There are critical initiatives, like the hospital’s work with state governments in supporting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), that deserve more visibility,” she stated. “Our media channels, including our website and news platform, can serve as tools to spotlight these important contributions and inspire more action.”
Ms. Ike added that the upcoming health outreach would be a central feature of the Press Week celebrations and described the initiative as a step toward uniting the fields of journalism and healthcare for greater national impact.
This collaboration underscores a growing recognition of the vital role journalists play not only in information dissemination but also in championing community well-being.
