PDP Governors Conclude Meeting in Jos, Address Concerns Over Party Unity and National Challenges

          By Comfort Akudiang, Jos

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has wrapped up its meeting in Jos, expressing deep concerns for Nigerians and the party’s founding members regarding apparent divisions within its ranks.

Chairman of the forum, Governor Alhaji Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, emphasized the forum’s commitment to fostering unity and cohesion within the party, which is viewed by many as the preferred platform for democratic governance.

During the meeting, the forum acknowledged the recent postponement of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, made out of respect for Governor Gomen Enobasi of Akwa Ibom State, who is mourning the loss of his wife.

The forum extended condolences and prayers to Governor Enobasi and his family during this difficult time.

Additionally, Governor Mohammed urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to consolidate efforts by early February 2025, allowing for thorough consultations with key stakeholders.

He highlighted the need for this period, from November to February, to be dedicated to addressing critical challenges facing the party and to develop a clear timeline for resolving leadership and governance issues.

The forum expressed solidarity with Nigerians grappling with economic hardships attributed to the policies of the APC-led federal government.

It called on the President to urgently reassess macroeconomic and fiscal measures to ease the burden on citizens.

The PDP governors pledged to continue implementing initiatives aimed at reducing hardship and fostering development.

On electoral integrity, the forum raised alarms about the recent Edo governorship elections, alleging manipulation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that favored the APC candidate, despite Mr. Asuor Gadobo of the PDP emerging as the majority vote winner in local areas.

Such concerns were echoed regarding the Ondo elections, where accusations of vote buying by the APC were noted.

The forum urged INEC to uphold democratic principles and called on the National Assembly to reinforce electoral laws to safeguard the will of the people.

Furthermore, the forum commended the efforts of PDP members in the National Assembly, encouraging them to rigorously evaluate all proposed legislation to ensure equity, fairness, and balanced development nationwide.

In a display of empathy, the forum commiserated with the people of Plateau State over the recent devastating fire at Katako Market, which resulted in extensive property damage, and expressed condolences to the residents of Kogi State following a tragic tanker explosion that caused loss of life and injuries.

Conclusively, the PDP Governors’ Forum expressed gratitude to the Plateau State government and its people for their warm hospitality during the meeting.

The forum praised the state government’s visible advancements in social services, tourism, and transportation, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful for similar achievements when the party aspires to reclaim its rightful position in Nigeria by 2027
