The Borno State Police Command has arrested 210 suspects for violence, drug abuse, and peddling in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere local council, declaring that under his watch, the police will not allow any criminal elements to operate in the state.
Speaking yesterday in Maiduguri on the successes recorded in the last week, the Police Commissioner, Naziru Adulmajid, strongly advised all those involved in the “illicit and clandestine activities” to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law.
On assuming duty as the 43rd commissioner of police, Abdulmajid emphasised the importance of working closely with communities to restore law and order in the state.
It could be recalled that during his maiden press briefing as the 43rd Commissioner of Police, he said, “I emphasised the importance of working closely with the community to restore law and order.”
Abdulmajid stated that the police are addressing the various heinous crimes, including handset-snatching, thuggery, youth gangsterism, and other social vices in the state.
Beyond the fight against crimes, Abdulmajid stated, “In line with our commitment, the Command under my leadership has carried out a series of intelligence-led operations,” adding that they include raids, stop-and-search exercises, surveillance, and the coordination of enforcement activities to prevent crimes.
Other successes recorded between 11 and 18 June, 2025: the police have arrested 210 suspects, with the conviction of 86 others, while 124 cases are being investigated by the police before prosecuting them in a court of law.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects comprise 58 sachets of tramadol, 175 exzol tablets, 395 wraps and a kilogram of Indian hemp, 130 D5 tablets, and nine knives.
Other recovered drugs included 19 shisha pots and pipes, 28 tablets of Ermo hard drugs, 10 bottles of syrup, and two customised antelope horns suspected to have been used in gangsterism.
On how the suspects were arrested, he said, “The massive police arrest was made through the dedication and hard work of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Social Vices Unit, and the joint task force of the police and other security agencies in the state.”
He, therefore, commended the unwavering commitment and bravery of the officers in the ongoing operations across the state.
While thanking Governor Babagana Zulum for supporting the police command, Abdulmajid stated that the state government has reinvigorated and equipped the RRS-Social Vices Unit with the required resources to function effectively in crime prevention.
He also appreciated the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barr. Hauwa Abubakar, for facilitating the swift prosecution and conviction of suspects that are in line with the rule of law.
He urged the people to continue partnering with the police and other security agencies by providing timely and actionable information on any suspicious activity in their communities.
