Police Investigate Katsina Connection in FCT Islamic School Bomb Blast
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated an investigation into a deadly bomb explosion at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, which claimed the lives of two men and left two others injured on January 6, 2025.
Preliminary police findings suggest that three men from Katsina visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and allegedly brought an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) with them. The device detonated while being tampered with on the school’s veranda, killing two of the visitors. A third man and a female trader were seriously injured and are currently receiving medical care under police supervision.
The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion was caused by an IED, with parts of the device recovered at the scene. Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that upon receiving a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, responded quickly, securing the area to protect residents and ensure a thorough investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged the public to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and avoid touching unfamiliar objects. Authorities also issued a safety advisory urging residents to cooperate in maintaining community security.
